Photo Tour/ Workshop 2010 Acadia is one of the most photogenic places in the United States, and for good reason. There are mountains, streams, still lakes, colorful meadows, ocean views, woodlands, trails, misty valleys, brilliant sunrises and awe-inspring sunsets. And in the autumn, the color in Acadia is second to none. No wonder the area is consistently voted the best place to see fall foliage in the country. Every time I’ve been out shooting in Acadia, I’m struck by the number of photographers I see, mostly amateur, some professional. Several times I’ve set up my camera and tripod in a quiet location, only to find that five minutes later, 15-20 people and sometimes even whole busloads of people, are standing around me shooting the same scene I am. People like to follow a person who looks like they know what they’re doing. It’s my desire to begin running workshops, or more accurately, photography tours, in Acadia National Park, starting this October. Unlike other photography workshops, the plan is to bring a small group of enthusiastic photographers together for several days of shooting and learning in an informal, friendly manner. Since this will be the first year operating the tour, I'm keeping the numbers down so we can travel light and everyone can get plenty of attention. Each day, we’ll leave our hotel early for dawn pictures, shooting at places like Cadillac Mountain, where the North American continent sees the first light of day. Hopefully we’ll catch the low clouds rolling through the valleys in the dawn light. After a good breakfast back at the hotel, we’ll head out for the day to explore the island and see where the light and color lead us. Dinners will be in town at one of Bar Harbor’s many fine restaurants. After our meal, we’ll get together to review the day’s shots and talk photography together. Acadia is a small national park, and I’ve been able to explore many locations throughout the park to determine where to be at the right time of the day. With an eye kept to the skies and the sun, we’ll make the most of each day, doing our best to be in the right place at the right time. All levels of photographers are welcome, shooting either film and digital. I will be shooting with you, but also helping those who have questions about their cameras, and photography in general, helping you get the most out of your camera, new or old. Think of it as a learning experience in the most beautiful classroom in the country. If you’re interested in joining us, please email me, with no obligation, for details. The tour will take place from October 9-16, 2010. Cost is $2150 per person, including accomodation, breakfast, lunch and all transportation throughout the week, including to and from Bangor airport. Virtually no other Acadia photo tour includes so much. For this first trip, our "maiden voyage", I'm having a good friend of mine accompany us. Adam Pratt has worked for Adobe Systems for more than a decade and has a background in training and consulting for photography and the graphic arts. He’s co-authored and edited more than a dozen books about Photoshop, Lightroom, and Adobe’s Creative Suite products and is the first certified Creative Suite Master in the world. Adam is also responsible for training Adobe's global network of trainers and consultants and is a frequent contributor to Adobe's ACE certification program. Adam has extensive experience teaching Photoshop and Lightroom software, and will be available to give tips on getting the most out of your digital images. Adam is also a passionate amateur photographer himself, and will be shooting with us all week. Click here to see some of the locations where we’ll be shooting. |
